Here Comes the Hard Part

This upcoming week is going to my hardest yet. Well I suppose not as hard as the first week when I started running again, but it is going to be hard.

Yesterday I ran in the NYRR 8k in Central Park. Just about everything that could go wring with race did. I had train problems and made it to the race 15 minutes before the start. That gave me just enough time to check my bag, go to the port-a-potty, and get to the starting corral. It did not leave me time to do my warm up run or real stretching. Boy did I feel it.

Going in, the plan was not to push myself to extremes. But at about the two mile mark my right thigh started feeling weird. It is the weirdness that happens when it's cold and I don't get enough time to stretch it out. I finished a minute over my usual pace.

Today, I felt sluggish but wanted to take advantage of the warmer weather and get in a good speed workout. I'm glad I went because today I feel so much better. So much better that I did a little core workout when I got home.

The bug challenge comes this week. I have a 15k in Central Park on Sunday. This will be longest distance I have run in a race ever. The major goal for this race is to finish and finish strong. No time goals. In order to do that, I have to make sure that I get in some decent but easy workouts this week but at the same time I need to make sure that I don't push myself too much.

One thing is for certain I will be taking an earlier train just in case there are problems again.

The Longest Week

This week has been dragging from day one. Well from day two since Monday is technically the second day of the week.

Sunday was great in all aspects. The weather was awesome, in the 60's, which meant that I had no excuses and got my butt out for a nice nine mile run in Central Park with Ed. We've got a 15k race coming up and then of course there's that whole half marathon that we're towards at the end of May.

On Monday things started to go downhill and fast. Let's not forget that the switch to Daylight Saving Time took place and it always takes me about two weeks to recover from that. Who knew that the loss of one hour could have such a lasting effect?

This week has not been good activity wise either. I've had very little chance to get out for a run, walk or for any sort of exercise. Don't even bother to tell to schedule it or that there is always. Dudes, I live in the real world and you know what; sometimes it's just not possible.

Everything has been dragging this week with yesterday perhaps being the worst of the week. Things started out well and I was feeling great then it was like everyone I had to deal with came to me after they fell off the stupid truck. I quickly lost the patience do deal with anyone.

The saving grace, and wouldn't he just love being called grace, was Ed on what has become our "date night." Every Thursday we go for a run. If it's cold outside we run on the indoor track at the Y, if it's nice we hit Central Park. The runs are always followed by food and not necessarily healthy food. But hey, we earned the right to eat what we want. Right next door to the Y is the diner and we always have some form of bacon cheeseburger deluxe with two sodas. It is so worth it and the company is awesome as well.

Today is Friday and the outlook at work hasn't changed much. It is colder out this morning and my mood took a downturn along with the weather. I'm still dealing with all the stupid people and am ready to stop doing any sort of real work and just tune folks out. I'm not answering the phone and am taking my time when it comes to answering email messages. When you are as efficient as I am, I can get away with this.

I'm in serious need of spring and sleep.
