The Nike Human Race The Nike Human Race I'm going to be writing this in segments as the evening progresses so I'm on the train into the city to meet Ed. It's kind of cool because What an amazing event! I am so glad that I participated. My official I now know what it feels like to be a marathon runner at the Olympics It just a great feeling to be a part of something this big that it may BTW, I actually felt like I could have kept running longer. Guess I

When I signed up for this way back in June, I thought that I would have all the time in the world to prepare. I have kept up the running since the running club officially ended and I even did two practice 10k's. Surprisingly I feel pretty confident that I'll be around the 1:10 mark. Ed is going to make sure this happens because he will drag me across that finish line! Tomorrow I head over to Niketown to pick up my race package that includes my shirt with race number on it. I'm already proud of that shirt without even seeing it, putting it on or running the race. The race is taking place in 25 cities around the world on August 31, the goal is to have a million people run a 10k that day hence the title of the race - The Human Race. Nike also plans to raise three million dollars to go to three different charities. I like the idea of being a part of something this big that can benefit others. My last practice run came after fighting off a cold and hills. I finished it in 1:13:22, this is almost a whole minute off the first practice run that was done on a track. The hills do make for good training and I have had a couple of speedwork sessions (thanks Jim!) which has meant that my pace has improved. The Randall's Island course is pretty flat and I thank the Lord Jesus every time I think about that! The last practice run also involved a 10 minute walk due to a severe runny nose, the need to breathe and a lost Chinese delivery guy without a map. The Chinese delivery guy will have to be separate post so that I can fully explain that incident in all its glorious annoying detail. I've created this cute little mini me on the Nikeplus site. I will be wearing an outfit very similar to my mini me so look for me on Randall's Island on the 31st. http://nikeplus.nike.com/nikeplus/?l=runners,avatar_viewer,1085780893 // posted by stacey on 8:12:00 AM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tuesday, August 19, 2008 Office Q&A This is a sampling of the type of questions I get from one of my co-workers. For those of you who don't know what I do, I basically manage technical conferences. This co-worker is supposed to be able to do the same thing. This sample takes place after the co-worker was told to contact her organizers and have them fill in missing information like session titles and sponsor information. Co-worker: This is an interesting question. How would you answer this? Me: What are they asking? Co-worker: They want to know how to enter the session sponsor information. What should I tell them? Me: You should tell them how to enter the information. This second sample takes place one minute later. Note: I know these questions are going to be coming my way because she reads the questions out loud to herself a few times when she can't figure them out. So I wait... Co-worker: Here's another one. Me: Go ahead. Co-worker: This organizer is asking "May I ask you for additional details on what is meeting?" How do I respond to that? Me: Ask them if they can be more specific about the details they want. Ok, for those of you do not work in this industry you might agree that that is an interesting question and would be difficult to answer. However, most people do know how to use their common sense and if they don't understand the question would ask for clarification. Most of the questions we get are of the common sense variety and after answering these questions for almost an entire year you should have a grasp of the type of questions we get and should be able to answer them all by yourself. This has actually turned out to be the most frustrating part of my job. // posted by stacey on 2:21:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Friday, August 15, 2008 Yo, B You totally suck ass for taking this week off! // posted by stacey on 9:34:00 AM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
