Review Day Well today was the day -- review day. The high priestess fucked me over. Apparantly I'm the only one in the entire company who made a mistake during FY07. I was also told again that I need to check my email on my personal time off. I don't know why this gadget geek girl didn't think of this earlier but from now on, I'll set one of those little rules in GroupWise to forward all of my email to the high priestess, that way she can decide what is urgent and what is not and my ass is covered! Take that BITCH! // posted by stacey on 8:42:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wednesday, August 29, 2007 Assed Out When Chrissy switched jobs I went from working on something like 12 conferences to 27 with at least five more on the way. The one constant about this is that from the moment I sit at my desk the work just keeps coming until it is time to leave. Some days things seem way too overwheling, then there are others like today where I can accomplish just about everything but am totally assed out by the end of the day. I could literally go to sleep right now and probably sleep through most of the night. I really miss the days when I used to finish my work at 9:00am and what's even more amazing is that I had days like that as recent nine months ago. The days when an email would come in and I could immediately do that task. I can't do that anymore, and I just hope that everyone I work with understands that. The problem is that the high priestess is not helping when it comes to providing reliable backup or even managing expectations. Tomorrow is my FY07 review. Technically this review is only supposed to cover what was listed on our FY07 balance scorecards. I'm just waiting for the parts that aren't on the scorecard that will be brought up. It also be a bit strange because hours after my new boss gives me my review I'll be having lunch with my old boss. Like I said, I miss the good old days. // posted by stacey on 7:19:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tuesday, August 28, 2007 New iPod I was excited about the iPhone and believe me I still want one but I was disspointed that it was only 8gb, certainly not enough for all of my videos. This rumor makes me excited. "Several sites (Engadget, Crave) are reporting that Apple will indeed be holding a media event on September 5th, 2007 at 10 AM Pacific. Apple has been rumored to be holding a media event to launch the new iPods. Rumors have pinpointed both revised Nanos as well as a full-screen touch iPod. The invite depicts "Cover Flow", which is expected to be arriving with the new OS X based iPods. The iPods have been the subject of a number of recent leaks (Nano photos, Interface Videos) which have attracted the attention of Apple Legal." I am very, very excited because this is much more useful to me than the phone. The ability to put all of my videos on this will be amazing. I would post images but Apple legal has already gone after all the sites who have posted them. So this points to a very exciting 9/5/07 for me! // posted by stacey on 9:53:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Somewhat Domesticated When my grandfather was alive he was in charge of the vegetable garden. After he died, the garden went with it. One of my goals has always been to start the garden up again. It took quite a few years but I started out very small this year with a square planter box and five tomato plants. Admittedly, I have forgotten to water the plants for days at a time but inspite of every thing they have thrived. They are now about half my height, they started from itty bitty seeds, and tomatoes are now all over them. The big ones should be turning red this week. Tonight I got to pick some of the cherry tomatoes that will be making an appearance in my salad for lunch tomorrow. I had one tonight and it tasted amazing. There is nothing like a good old home grown tomato. So as I'm sitting here with my beer and pizza I'm feeling a bit more domesticated than I have been in a while. // posted by stacey on 7:23:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sunday, August 26, 2007 Life Lists I don't have a life list and don't quite get them. There is an article in today's NYTimes Style section about this very topic. I guess my first problem is that I'm not a list maker to begin with. I mean I deal with lists all the time, they just suck. For example I have a list of 27 conferences that I am now working on. Each of these has its own list of papers at various stages (draft papers submitted, final papers submitted, copyright forms submitted). One even has a giant list of presenting authors who need to register for a certain conference. I'll be spending most of my Monday dealing with that before a 3:00pm teleconference where I have to report on this list. My point is that I believe lists are for work not for life outside of work. There was one woman in that article that said she found enlightenment in her life list. What!?! I don't get it. How can you possibly find enlightenment in a list where you have to check off that skydiving trip. That's not to say that I don't want to accomplish or do things. I want to go to Australia and China. I want to take more time for myself and my friends and family but I just don't need a list to keep track of all that. But if I was forced to make a life list at this moment this would be it. 1. Come into money (whether by winning lotto or meeting a disgustingly rich woman) so that I can retire tomorrow! Simple and to the point and I think I could even find enlightenment in that. // posted by stacey on 1:00:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday, August 25, 2007 Random Facts When I go jogging I often wear my heart rate monitor. This helps me train and keep track of my runs. Almost every time afterwards I forget to take it off. It won't be until I'm sitting down eating a bowl of ice cream that I realize that I still have it on. I should point out that technically I'm not eating ice cream its organic non-fat frozen yogurt. Stonyfield Farms to be exact and they make the best but ufortunately I can only find it in pint sizes which makes me sad. But I digress. Keeping the heart rate monitor lets me figure out all sorts of weird averages. Here are a few. My average heart rate when I run is 156, 170 when I am really trying to push myself to a faster pace. When I eat the organic non-fat frozen yogurt its 94 and when I pee it is 63. And yes, I know there have been a lot of posts about peeing lately but deal with it. It's my blog so you gotta deal with my bodily functions. // posted by stacey on 11:31:00 AM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Friday, August 24, 2007 Liberty won! Holla! Although typing on the cell is difficult with a buzz. I also should have peed before i left the bar, no way am i gonna pee on a metro north train! So this is a special shout out to B - my new awesomest drinking buddy! // posted by stacey on 10:57:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Monday, August 13, 2007 DVD Player The DVD player is now connected to my new TV. I am in heaven and will be watching all of my DVDs (I wish) as soon as I can. // posted by stacey on 4:10:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday, August 11, 2007 My New HDTV I got my new HDTV today. It is beautiful and if I could, I would totally have sex with it. I still have to connect the DVD/VCD combo player. This is a bit more tricky because I had to fumble around with connectionson the old TV as the normal configuration didn't work. Now I have to figure out how to do the connection properly but there are so many cables and things on the entertainment center that need to be moved. So I think that will be a job for tomorrow. Because it was really important for me to watch Food TV. When it's off I just stare at it. It is that beautiful. Within the next month I will upgrade my DirecTV dish & receiver so that I can get the HD channels and then I'll really want to have sex with the TV. // posted by stacey on 2:48:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Friday, August 10, 2007 What Day Is It? I know today is Friday, but I'm still not sure of the actual date. This is what it is like when you start taking Vicodin on a somewhat regular basis. That and some very strange dreams. The surgery went well. I have three small incisions that hurt less and less but it's still a bitch to walk at a normal pace or even around the block. Oh and they're itchy as hell. I've got these steri-strips on them instead of real stitches because the incisions are super tiny. I can sleep on my side again but it hurts when those damn cats try to get in my lap. I've caught up on my Netflix list and a bunch of dvd's I bought but never got a chance to watch. I finished my Harry Potter book and haven't really thought about work at all. My doctor's appointment is on Monday and if all goes well, which is expected, I'll be headed back to work on Wednesday. I just have to make sure that I remember when that is. // posted by stacey on 6:36:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wednesday, August 01, 2007 Appendicitis - Phase Two Well, today is the day -- I'm having my appendix removed. At exactly 1:00pm. I'll be checking into the hospital at 11:00am. If all goes well, I'll be in the hospital for one night. So, as Donna Donna from WLIR used to say, "I'll see you on the flip side." // posted by stacey on 8:16:00 AM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
