Stuff A lot of stuff has been going on at work lately, a lot of stuff that I really want to write about but just can't seem to put into the proper words. But to put it simply the telecommuting request that I submitted back in January is not being approved. Most likely because I have pushed too hard. I have been told in writing with a letter sent to HR and my personnel file that I can request the telecommuting again in three to six months. Oh, and apparently I wasn't being given the run-around. I'll post all the stuff soon so that you can decide for yourself. // posted by stacey on 11:42:00 AM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tuesday, March 27, 2007 FYI My heart rate when I pee is 65. // posted by stacey on 3:56:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wednesday, March 21, 2007 March Madness And I'm not just talking about basketball. Check it out. // posted by stacey on 2:57:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thursday, March 08, 2007 Creating Pleasant Working Environments This gem was sent to one of my co-workers from her supervisor. It speaks for itself. In order for us to use our time at work more efficiently, please follow the guidelines listed below. Although some of you are already adhering to these rules, others in the department are not. 1) Limit the frequency and duration of personal phone calls. Some of you spend way too much time on the phone and receive too many personal phone calls. 2) Limit internet surfing and personal emails to the lunch break. Also, you are not allowed to have instant messaging software installed on your computer. Please note that the IT department monitors the frequency and duration of your logins. 2) ****** does not allow for a breakfast break (that is, employees are expected to begin working once they arrive at work). It is acceptable to spend 15 minutes unwinding at the beginning of the day as you have coffee, but spending a half hour eating breakfast and reading the newspaper is considered excessive. 3) Any non-work-related reading (e.g, newspaper, magazines, or novels) should be limited to the lunch break. The same rule applies to listening to music, whether you are using headphones or speakers. This is the type of work that requires your complete attention. 4) Keep cigarette breaks to a minimum. 7) Keep socializing time with coworkers to a minimum. It is fine to talk with coworkers once in a while, but do not socialize routinely and repeatedly throughout the day. Keep your visits short. 8) Lunch hour should not last more than 40 minutes. Occasionally, employees need to take a longer break for personal reasons; if this is the case, please notify me. It is not my intention to create an unpleasant environment; however, the nature of our work requires our full attention, and excessive distraction has been compromising our ability to meet deadlines and affecting the quality of our work, which has been apparent during Quality Checks. I expect your full cooperation in this matter. Any future problems regarding these ground rules will be addressed with the individual editor. Thank you. // posted by stacey on 12:08:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wednesday, March 07, 2007 One is the Loneliest Chrissy has been in that Influencing without Authority seminar that I had to take a while ago. What I have done today is pretty simple -- finished my work early (just like the good ole days), hung out on Our Chart for a while, finished watching the latest episode of Battlestar Gallactica (I really don't believe Starbuck is dead. I need proof.), and am reading a book. I have one more hour to go. Tonight, I'll be posting a couple of new songs on my nearly-orphaned podcast site. I think that is the one thing that has bothered me the most about Cynthia leaving. Doing my job plus splitting Cynthia's job with Chrissy has really left me drained. And yes, I'll continue with the cliche, emotionally and physically. I have been so tired that I just about stopped doing what I enjoy most listening to and talking about music, reading good books and watching great movies. Spring is around the corner (yup, here comes another cliche) and it is time for a rebirth. There will be a podcast this weekend! // posted by stacey on 2:32:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tuesday, March 06, 2007 Super Supervisors During the next week or so everyone in my company will have to attend a diversity seminar. I can go off in so many directions on this topic. It was initially very hard to decide which one to go on, that I decided to go with the email that HR sent. There are two types of diversity seminars one for the common folk and one for supervisors. The email from HR had this line, "If you supervise at least one person you must attend the seminar for supervisors." OK, where to begin with this. Why couldn't they just write all supervisors must attend the supervisor seminar? This got me to thinking, there must be supervisors who don't have anyone to supervise. Sort of super supervisors because that would be great to have all that power and not to have manage a subpordinates balance scorecard or deal with any of their whiney-ness. It would totally make sense for there to be super supervisors at my company because there was that whole new level of managers that was created during the re-org. I have decided that this will be my new goal -- to become a super supervisor. // posted by stacey on 9:20:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
