Ch-ch-ch-changes It seems like a lot has been going but in some ways not much has. I went back to work after vacation and it took me a whole week to get my email inbox down to five messages. I sort of caught up and then quickly got behind again, caught up, got behind. It has been a pretty crazy couple of weeks. I had applied for cbc's job when it was finally posted, a job I never really expected to get but figured I would make everyone go through the motions because why make it easy. It was finally confirmed on Friday that my new boss will be starting this coming Friday. Someone who has moved around from job to job and even worked on our company's magazine before. Oh, and apparently word on the street is that she is opportunistic. This should be fun. I wonder how long it will take her to realize that if she leaves me, chrissy and a-rob alone she look good and not have to worry about taking advantage of us. On top of all that the new television season on the big three networks has gotten underway. The new fall schedule has brought me a lot of new conflicting shows combined with mlb playoff fever. Grrr is all I have to say. Looks like I'll be getting my dvr from directv sooner than planned, hopefully it will have the same series 3 tivo capabilities. I am a little disappointed that NBC hasn't put Studio 60 on iTunes which means I had to watch the pilot in parts from nbc.com. It wasn't too bad but I would like to download it like I am currently downloading the MI-5/Spooks season 5 premier at this moment thanks to nice torrent creators. At least I can put everything on my ipod and tune everything out including the new boss. // posted by stacey on 3:33:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday, September 09, 2006 Scoops the Podcast Go check it out at scoopsthepodcast.com/podcast. // posted by stacey on 2:26:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Friday, September 08, 2006 Hollywoodland - My Review I've been looking forward to this movie for the past month since there has been nothing but crap in the theaters during the month of August. Thank god for the fall drama season!Oh and just in case Zaida wants to see this but hasn't yet and for anyone else who may not want to have any spoilers. ZAIDA! DO NOT READ ANY MORE! For those not in the know the movie, not based on any book, is about the mysterious death of TV's Superman, George Reeves. His death was ruled a suicide but there was never any clear proof of murder or suicide. His girlfriend and her friends were in the house when it happened but it took them 45 minutes to call the police. The acting is superb. Even Ben Affleck seems to remember what acting is. Diane Lane is stunning and fits into this role with incredible ease. Adrian Brody also does a fine job. Allen Coulter does a very good job of blending in the present day, after the death, with the flashbacks before Reeves died. The flashbacks don't get in the way and help keep the pacing of the movie going. You don't feel that the movie is over two hours at all. This is pretty good since all the other folks in the theater were all senior citizens and said the same thing. Either they didn't drink anything or they were wearing their Depends. As good as the movie is, there are some flaws somewhat minor but nagging nonetheless. First is that there are three possibilities to how he dies. If you don't know the story and don't want to know stop reading now. He either commits suicide due to the despair of a career that is going nowhere, he is killed by Toni Mannix's studio exec husband Edgar, or was he killed by girlfriend Leonore Lemmon. The movie shows all three possibilities, leaning more towards one but it would have been nice to have them take a dare and choose one. The second flaw has to do with some prayer cards that are left at the crime scene after the body is removed. It is never made clear who left them or why? On the whole this is a very good movie and I strongly recommend that you see this, dramas need a good boost at the box office. // posted by stacey on 8:54:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hollywoodland Going to see this now. Review coming later. -- Mobile Email from a Cingular Wireless Customer http://www.cingular.com // posted by stacey on 1:26:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thursday, September 07, 2006 Con(n)Ed Well the new URL is up and running, obviously you have found it. For Peter, there is even the rss feed that he so desperately wanted on the other site. Actually it has always been there, you just had to look for it. If you are a regular reader of the blog you may think that my electricity goes out a lot. Well, in 2006 it has. It all started back in January when we had a pretty big rain/wind storm. During that storm a tree branch in my neighbor's yard came down and pulled the wires out. That took ConEd a few days to get around to fixing it even though they were called on the first day and were aware of the problem. Then back on July 18 we had another severe storm, a microblast to be exact, that took out the power again. This storm drew nationwide attention as this coincided with a heatwave that knocked out power in Queens and Yonkers for nine days if not more in certain areas. Then, of course, was this past week which knocked out power again. I know that some of my friends that in update New York always laugh when I mentioned this because their power goes out at least once a month. But what you have to consider is that before January, it had been years since we lost electricity. This is where my beef comes in. First, and primarily, it is with ConEd. Every year my rates go up but it seems that any improvement in service does not exist. Their customer service has declined considerably over the years as well as any response time. In fact, one year ConEd came to do some work outside my house and then proceeded to loose the power to half of the house. When I called up the woman did not believe me and had no idea why a crew would have been working there to begin with. Everyone knew that Ernest was making its way up to New York this past weekend and that there would be high winds. One could easily conclude that there could be a lot of downed trees. Even if it was a holiday weekend, the folks at ConEd should have made sure that there were enough people in the call center to make sure that outages were reported properly. Over a two-hour period I kept getting a busy signal and then when I finally got through it took another 30 minutes to actually get to a person to report my outage. Repeatedly over the years ConEd has cut jobs and part of those jobs that were cut belonged to those people who would regularly inspect the lines to make sure that weren't going to burn out. This is something that may have prevented some of the outages in Queens and Yonkers. Their shoddy day-to-day maintenance has brought on much bigger problems. Because of these cuts I also have to wonder about the quality of the repair made back in January. Because the crews were overworked and rushing to restore power (ConEd was getting some bad press) was the repair really fixed or was it just a band-aid fix? My second major beef, is with the village of Port Chester, namely the Mayor Logan administration. Prior to Logan becoming mayor the village DPW would go around every spring and summer and trim all of the village trees and make sure that they were not interfering with any wires. I have to wonder how many power outages could have been avoided if the trees were maintained like they used to be. Even calling the village to ask them to look at trees to see if they should be trimmed go un-answered. I do give the DPW guys a lot of credit because when part of my tree fell into the street, with the help of a limb from a village tree, they came within 15 minutes to clear the street. A holiday weekend, I'm sure they got amazing overtime. Again, my taxes keep going up but the mayor continually cuts my services. A lot of this stuff is a cause and affect kinda thing but what it comes down is cutting services and actually expecting things not to fail. When you keep this up things happen and they escalate into bigger problems. I can't wait for the next storm. // posted by stacey on 9:23:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wednesday, September 06, 2006 More Professional...Sort of Within the next day or so the blog will be moving (again) to scoopstheblog.com. The main reason is that I need to have staceycooper.com look more professional for well, professional reasons. I'll be posting soon about my ongoing hatred for ConEd, it should be a doozy and don't forget to checkout scoopsthepodcast.com, I've been posting stuff all week and will have a new podcast tomorrow or Friday. // posted by stacey on 7:10:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday, September 02, 2006 No lights Fuck fuck and triple fuck!
