Odds and Ends So much has been going on that instead of posting separately about each of them it will be easier to post the little bits of infor here instead. 1. There will be no lawn boy this summer. Due to my increasing property taxes and his increasing fee ($60 bucks to mow the front and back yards plus extra for hedge trimming) I have decided that it would be best if I did this stuff myself. My mother bought me a new push mower like the kind my grandfather had years ago. This isn't gas or electric powered - it's human powered. I had mixed feelings about this, yeah that's kinda cool given the cost of gas these days but at the same time I was like, "There's no way I'm using that in the front yard." Well reluctantly I used it in the front yard without the snickering of my neighbors. You do get a great work out so I guess this goes into the count this as training for the Corporate Challenge. The only negative I have about is that it doesn't cut the real skinny bits of grass, which leads to the next odds and ends bit. 2. Dykes and power tools. Beacuse of the tall skinny stringy bits of grass I had to go through the yard and trim these by hand. This was way too much manual labor. I broke down and bought myself a new weed eater/edger thing. Powered by electricity this sucker packs a punch. It has an automatic feeder and dual neon green plastic things that will destroy anything in its path. So long stringy bits o' grass! I'm also able to show the lawn boy, if he ever drives by, all the places he missed or just didn't feel like weed eating -- like around the trees and decorative white stones along the street. Note: The decorative white stones are something of a neighborhood things as eevryone on the upper part of my street, that section that used to be part of an estate, has always had them. These currently need to be repainted white but that is for another day. 3. Chrissy is on vacation. This sucks because While she is gone I'm doing my job, Cynthia's job and now her job. It's lonely without her. Plus she left the night of the season finale of Lost so we haven;t even had a chance to get into the details about that. 4. Its finally nice in New York. It looks as though it might finally be flip-flop weather to stay. This si the first Memorial day weekend that all three days, Saturday, Sunday and Monday will be in the mid 80s. FANTASTIC! 5. Its time to get the lawn furniture out and lock up a cat. witht he nice weather I can finally ste up the hammock and all the various outdoor furniture including umbrellas. The loud screaming cat who can't be trusted to go outside by himself willa lso get the opportunity to sit in his cage with benches and wheels and meow for the entire neighborhood to hear. Summer is here. // posted by stacey on 12:25:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thursday, May 25, 2006 Dear Blog, I am truly sorry that you have been so neglected. You see the days of me finishing my work by noon are over thanks to Cynthia's departure and the lack of a replacement ever being hired. My days have been filled with learning how to do pub memo's, invoices, determining member and list prices, and realizing that I need about 10.5 hours to do my work every day. Keep in mind that I have a 7.5 hour work day. So far this week I have had to do the front matter for two conferences while on the train or at home. Last night I built a site for a new conference and tested another. The good news is that I think I finally have figured everything out and can now develop my own system to do everything. This means I may have a day like today where I finished my work while at work. We'll see how this goes with Chrissy out of town for a week. GULP. An extra good note is that we get out of work at 2 tomorrow and the boss won't be in. That is what I call a perfect start to the weekend. // posted by stacey on 8:24:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Friday, May 19, 2006 New Podcast Check it out at scoopsthepodcast.com. // posted by stacey on 8:06:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Friday, May 05, 2006 Sleep Earlier in the week I decided I was going to take today off. Good planning on my part because it is supposed to be in the mid 80s today. SWEEEEET! The real reason I took it off was because I just really wanted to have one day during the week where I could sleep late. It got so bad that all I was really hoping for was just one extra hour of sleep. All was going well until 6:30am when the company that owns the back hoe that has been sitting in my neighbors yard because they are getting an in-ground swimming pool decided to pick it up. Apparently they don't send some one to just drive the damn thing. No, what they do is drive it on to a flatbed truck. Then with very big chains that bang very loudly they fasten the back hoe onto the flatbed truck. My hope for sleeping an extra hour turned into just sleeping 30 extra minutes. Bastards! // posted by stacey on 10:35:00 AM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thursday, May 04, 2006 My neighbor My neighbor who has been known to mow his lawn in the dark and blow his leaves in in the snow was out this morning fertilizing his lawn. This was at 6:30 am. // posted by stacey on 6:58:00 AM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
