Sometimes a Mistake can Turn Out Just Fine I went to Gigi's to get my usual salad. I know, no real surprise there. While in the process of opening my plastic bucket of lettuce the guy dropped half of it and asked me to grab another. So I got a bucket and a half of lettuce. Then the dressing guy made a mistake and gave me Asian Sesame Ginger dressing instead of my usual low-fat Ceasar. I must now say that Asian Sesame Ginger is my new favorite dressing. // posted by stacey on 1:31:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Monday, January 30, 2006 Frappuccino Heaven The Starbucks in my building has finally added the Double Chocolate Chip Frappuccino to their menu. This is going to be a very bad thing. // posted by stacey on 2:37:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thursday, January 26, 2006 Apparantly ![]() Apparantly Originally uploaded by scoopsy. I played grape Russian roulette today. // posted by stacey on 1:47:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Grape Soda I could have sworn that I wrote about grape soda in the past but I used my own search engine and discovered that I had not. This leaves me perplexed now because I really thought I did but now I'm seriously thinking that I am going insane. I have problems remembering conversations that were held two hours ago. Ok, maybe I need to clarify this before I get emails saying that I need to go to the doctor to make sure I don't have some sort of tumor. The conversations I forget are the ones that I have with my mother. She always seems to be talking to me when I am focusing on something else. OK, so the forgetting conversations aside I often have problems remembering what I have had for lunch during the week. For example Monday is a bit of a blur but when in doubt it must have been a GiGi's salad. Before you ask, I do know that I have written about my lunch forgetfulness before. I searched for it! Ok, what was my point my point about this post? Oh yeah, grape soda. I really can't believe that I haven't written about on here. I guess I just thought about writing a grape soda post but never got around to it. A while back, I don't remember when, I got a salad from GiGi's and got a Welch's grape soda to go with it. The grape soda was out of this fucking world and I thought I should have more of it. This then reminded of the time a few months back when I ordered Mexican food and they gave me a free grape soda. They give free sodas with any order over eight bucks, if you don't request a certain type they choose randomly. Consider it Russian roulette for sodas. Anyway, when I got the grape soda from the Mexican place I thought, "Man this is fucking good!" I have tried ordering it from peapod but they only some generic brand of grape soda. I'm willing to play Russian roulette for soda at the Mexican place but grape soda Russian roulette. So today a bunch of us decided to order Mexican food and this time I decided not to play soda Russian roulette and was very specific about the grape soda. It better be fucking good. So now I finally have a post about grape soda that I can search for when I can't remember if I ever wrote about grape soda. // posted by stacey on 1:02:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tuesday, January 24, 2006 Gadget Geek Girl There have been times in my life when people have made fun of me and my love for gadgets. Well, not just my love for gadgets but my need for them. These people would not have been laughing at me if they were stuck in my house after the lights went out. Here is a short list of gadgets that got me through the three days. 60gb iPod Photo - This particular iPod is known for its superior battery life. There seems to be something about the 60gb models that maintain juice longer than all other models I am even hearing this about the 60gb video iPod vs. the 30gb video iPod. The iPod also served as an alarm clock with the use of the tripod speakers (see below). Tripod Speakers - Zelco makes these handy little speakers that is basically a tripod with speakers in it, hence the name. One AAA battery lasts for about 10 hours of constant play. I have tested this out. Since I am Gadget Geek Girl, AAA batteries are all around my house. This helped pass the time during the day so I could listen to music and helped with the alarm clock situation. 12-inch iBook - My iBook saved the day, well on the first day. This allowed me to watch most of the second season of Lost so that I could catch up on the episodes that I missed. Nokia 3650 Mobile Phone - I do have a regular land line phone but my Nokia allowed me to text updates to my friends, check email, and most important post updates on the blog with pictures! SONY shower radio - I won this radio about eight years ago at a company party and have used it ever since in my shower. During the blackout I moved the radio to the living room for the usual news and stuff. One feature that this radio has is a TV band. While I couldn't get a picture I could at least get the audio. I also learned that I watch way too much CSI because I knew that odd sound coming out of the radio was the tape the CSI techs use to remove fibers from clothing. Headlight - After the big blackout that hit New York City in 2003 I bought a camping headlight. I never really had the chance to use it until now. Needless to say I am really glad that I got it because it freed my hands and made going to the bathroom in the dark that much easier. I do have one suggestion make sure you take it off your head when you leave the house as this can embarrassing situations. // posted by stacey on 9:00:00 AM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday, January 21, 2006 10:12 At exactly 10:12pm last night my power was restored. It was a little over an hour after that giant ConEd truck showed up. I have to admit that I resigned myself to never having lights or tv in my house again. The darkest hours of my life (sorry about that) chased down with some Tylenol PM and coke. I figured that the only way to get through another of night without light and heat. This means that my hatred for ConEd has ebbed a bit, but that only goes so far. What I saw last night -- people working in the dark with giant trucks and flash lights is what I wanted to see two nights ago. Yes, I understand that this was the biggest storm that Westchester County had seen in decades and that this storm caused the most power outages ever, but the response could have been much better. My hatred for Optimum cable still burns strong and is what kept me warm during the outage. That generator kept going until close to midnight last night. Someone actually pointed out to me yesterday that Optimum was actually treating their customers well during the outage by making sure that their cable stayed on. Um, actually no. It was money that kept that generator going. What utility company wants to issue credits to their customers? Certainly not Optimum. For the record I do not have cable but have DirecTV and yes, I do have issues about that too, but much less than cable companies. The hatred I have for my neighbor's tree is just as strong and I will be sending them the phone number for my arborist, Almstead Tree & Shrub. They do a great job for reasonable prices, plus they offer a free inspection. You can't argue with that. Its laundry time! I love electricity! // posted by stacey on 10:02:00 AM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Friday, January 20, 2006 Perhaps There will be light tonight. After clearing the tree earlier in the day, there is now a flurry of activity on my street. Perhaps the most important being the giant coned truck! // posted by stacey on 9:03:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You Suck ConEd I still don't have any electricity. I came into work today only to charge my phone (and spare battery), my iBook, and my iPod. Oh and to remember what lights look like and what heat feels like. Both look and feel pretty good. Here's the run down of yesterday's events since my phone lost juice shortly after yesterday's post. I called ConEd to follow-up with the progress of restoring power to my half of the block. The guy said we had already reported the outage and they are working on it. Working on it where I ponder. I ask him if he could give me a timeline. He says no but that it will be on by the end of the day (Jan. 19, not today today). I wait patiently, read a book. I notice that the Optimum cable is still parked out side my house and realize that the noise I have been hearing is in fact that of a generator. The generator is chained to the telephone poll and the extension cord is going up into the box on the poll. You know what he is doing? He is providing power to the cable system so that those people who have lights will also have their cable. Now keep in mind that my bedroom faces the street where this poll is located. So for two nights in a row I have had to listen to this loud generator, have flashing yellow lights in my room and loud talking when they change shifts and put more gas in the generator. ALL SO THOSE MOTHER FUCKERS DON'T HAVE TO LIVE WITHOUT THEIR FUCKING CABLE, BECAUSE ITS SUCH A FUCKING HARDSHIP!!!! TRY LIVING WITH OUT ELECTRICITY FOR THREE DAYS BITCH!!!!!!!!! Okay back to the ConEd story. Sorry I'm just a little bitter about the whole thing. Finally at about 3:00pm two guys from ConEd, not service guys but they're from ConEd nonetheless. They look at the wires and decide that after 24 hours the wires are unsafe. Good thing my neighbors weren't constantly going in and out of their house. But the actual ConEd people who do the work never showed up, leaving the one ConEd guy to sit in his car all night to block the street. Oh and with his headlights facing my house so that I got some additional lighting in my living room. So ConEd, you fucking suck! // posted by stacey on 9:51:00 AM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thursday, January 19, 2006 No power yet ![]() No power yet Originally uploaded by scoopsy. This is my they this morning, two cold cats. No sign of coned and i just had the world's largest bacon & eggs breakfast. My ipod will probably run out of juice today. So power or not I'll be at work tomorrow just to charge every thing. // posted by stacey on 8:58:00 AM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wednesday, January 18, 2006 candlelight dinner ![]() candlelight dinner Originally uploaded by scoopsy. I still don't have power along with half my block. I've got my headlight on praying that coned gets here soon. When you have 40 pto days you can do this. Good thing i did. One of the gutters came off and a tree in my neighbor's yard fell & knocked out power. No tv, no heat & no internet! I can't really explain how this grates on my nerves. The best way I can describe the reaction I get when people do this is to compare it to someone scrapping their finger nails down a chalkboard. I just don't understand why people do this. What is so cute about it? You're fucking adults so act like it! You can be in love and express it in ways so much better than this. If you are one of the people, I beg you please stop for the sanity of the people around you! // posted by stacey on 11:08:00 AM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
