itunes weirdness cont'd.

well i think i have resolved most of the itunes problems. the result is that some of my music did not get backed up as i thought it had. i lost the entire garden state soundtrack and just the napoleon dynamite dialog on the soundtrack. the music is there but not the dialog. i know cynthia has the garden state soundtrack so i can import her cd. i'm not sure if she has the napoleon dynamite soundtrack. which would totally suck if she didn't because on itunes you have to purchase the entire album to get the dialog.

i only had to repurchase one song, considering that it is only $.99 i'm not that angry. i did have to reimport a bunch of cds that i already had so the only frustrating part is that i had to go hunt those down. thank goodness for super fast firewire cd drives. i do have to hunt down all the cd art for the covers to appear on my ipod, but that is the least of my concerns.

i resubscribed to my podcasts and all seems ok there.

i've been holding off on actually updating my ipod because the garden state soundtrack is still on that. for those of you not in the know, you can't pull the music off of your ipod. so until i get cbc's copy of garden state i'm gonna hold off.

since external hard drives are pretty cheap, 250gb for around 179 bucks, i might swing for another one specifically for backing up all the computers in the house.

itunes weirdness

itunes has been acting up on me a bit lately and it is not making my last flex day of the summer a happy one.

after buying my lacie 250gb external hard drive, i took the time to reformat it and partition it so that i could get the most out of it. i moved all of music files to my 60gb photo ipod which acts as an external hard drive and after setting up the partitions moved the files onto the the lacie. everything was working fine when i updated my ipod on sunday evening. the great thiong is that it only took about 5 minutes of me sitting in front of the computer and may 30 minutes to actully move the files. since i also moved the library file all of my playlists remained intact. happiness all around.

well this morning i start up my desktop and launch itunes to subscribe to a new podcast only to discover that my entire library, playlists and podcasts are gone. again, no major worry because none of the music was lost. just annoying because i now have to go through and redo all of my playlists and subscribe to the podcasts again.

the one good thing is that the playlists are on my ipod so that won't be too much of a problem in recreating them, but this is definitely not the way i planned to spend the day.

oh peapod, how i love you so

today i went to the new super stop and shop that opened up in port chester. while the store itself is very nice and all the people who work there are very nice i don't think i'll be going back.

it only took two aisles for me to remember why i hate shopping, especially grocery shopping. its those carts. people bump you, stop short, leave their cart in middle of the aisle or just simply block the aisle and give you dirty looks when you say, "excuse me i need to get by."

i swear my heart rate picked up to unreasonable rates.

there were a few good deals that i grabbed, but i'm all about peapod.

two great paper titles

two papers came in for this year's mechanical engineering congress.

1) toy asparagus spear risk analysis

check out the pictures.

the bad asparagus toy

the good asparagus toy

2) on the safety of name badge lanyards
apparently the ones with the metal ends are bad and the ones with the breakaway connectors are better.

tiger sighting

and no i'm not talking about the new mac os.

while on the train passing through the bronx this morning i looked up and saw a tiger -- a real tiger -- chained up like it was being used as a guard dog.

unfortunately everyone else on my train was sound asleep and i couldn't get an address to call the aspca because what we see from the train are the back of the buildings.

so now i'm all anxious to get back on the train and see if i can find a location and see the tiger again.

tylenol pm is addictive and why i'm going to hell

last night i discovered that i was out of tylenol pm -- the scariest of scariest thoughts. even though it is not supposed to habit forming i swear to god it is. i mean there is simply no other way to explain why i don't sleep as well without it and all those funky ass dreams i get. for example, last night peter was dressed as the scarecrow from batman, i was getting married (don't know who i was marrying), cbc had decided to retire and announced that her pension was a whopping 40,000 a month and i didn't care cuz i was leaving too, then there was the bit about the blind man. oh and all this was happening around my bed. needless to say i will be stopping into duane reade to pick up those lovely little blue pills.

speaking of the blind man that was in my dreams. there is this legally blind man in our building. how legally blind is in question. he can see enough to press the elevator buttons but how much further from that i don't know, but i know he can see well enough to purposefully steer towards people and hit them with is cane. the dude also has an odd sense of for color so maybe he's also color blind. oh and let's not forget that funky ass hair cut that a blind man must have given him.

bigger and better apple

i went to the new and improved apple store in the westchester mall in white plains today. i always get excited when i go to the apple store but today was even more special since this was my first visit since they moved. it is sooooo much better, more self service in the fact that you can actually pick up your own ipods and other items. better location of the genius bar and registers. oh and the employees are now donning green t-shirts instead of the black. i really need to get one of those.

in the old location on most days the line from register would reach all the way to the front door.

today i picked up the new mighty mouse. i can left and right click on happiness.

also had my new 250gb lacie external hard drive delivered today. just in time as there is absolutely no space left on my imac desktop. all that music takes up a lot of space.

alone time

chrissy is still out sick with a cold, yeah i know it is a disgusting hot humid day in august and yes she has a cold. i also forgot that cbc is out today well according to the time out of the office list. but yesterday she did mention something about having her colonoscopy (spelling?)and that she was going to try and come in because she didn't want to waste a pto day. when she did mention that i didn't think she meant today, but perhaps she did.

its hard to tell these days because i have become addicted to this game i discovered on shockwave called equilibria. i was at a crucial point in the game yesterday when cbc told me about the colonoscopy thing. you see my balls were reaching the end. yeah go ahead and try to picture that!

so if cbc does not in fact come in that leaves rick, kim and judy to keep an eye on me. this means i won't be able to sleep or get in a good movie. which is disappointing because when chrissy is out i get an amazing amount of work done, fewer smoking breaks and chit chat. of course it would help if i, the non-smoker, did not go out for smoke breaks but i figure if they're allowed to do it and not get in trouble i should be able to take breaks too.

what i really need is some good quality time for myself to sleep late and watch movies all day. unfortunately, this won't be happening anytime soon as newly retired mother as acquired my flex because she (this is the important word -- she not me) doesn't want to spend the day at home. what's worse is that i have no idea what she wants to do.

this is why i need to go on vacation.

bomb scare

today during lunch we had some excitement when we went out and discovered that park avenue between 31st and 34th streets were blocked off because of a suspicious package that was left on the corner of 32nd and park.

there was quite a police presence but not once did we see the bomb squad, which is what i was hoping to see. i want to see that little robot in action as it picks up the package, puts it in the detonation tank and blows it up.

i checked to see if it made the headlines of the local news services but no luck. my guess in a city as big as ours there must be hundreds of these types of things every week. a suspicious package is only exciting when it blows up.

does bitchiness become me?

shortly after 2:00pm yesterday my mother called and left a voice mail saying that she would not be going to the liberty game with me. this will be the third time that she has done this this season. these cancellations also seem to happen on hot days. there are three more evening games during the week that i expect her to also cancel out on. when she does this it also happens so late in the afternoon that it is next to impossible to find a replacement, that means 45 dollars has been thrown away three times now.

in addition to this my mother had promised that she would buy dinner since i was short of cash, nine dollars was all i had. when i called her to remind her of this she said something along the lines of, "can't you charge it?" thanks for the love mom!

the other downside to this is that it happens when i'm at work so i can't yell or scream and throw a fit. i think mothers do this on purpose.

needless to say that my mood went downhill from there and all i could think about for the rest of the day were unpleasant thoughts that nearly drove me to tears.

i charged my dinner and my ibook enjoyed the 45 dollar seat, which i fiercely defended. i sit in the second row behind two vip seats. there are two additional vip seats at the other end of the row. three people showed up, two had the seats in front of me and the third person had the seat on the other end. she asked me if my empty seat was taken and i said yes. she gave me this look and i said, "i paid for it so that my bag wouldn't have to sit on the floor. see here's my ticket." she pouted for most of the first half until the usher moved some other people he had mistakenly put in seats in the front row enabling her to move next to her friends.

if my mother asks tell her i had a snickers and a coke for dinner.
