pinball rules

so the wise folks behind superscout finally caught up with us and have efectively shut off our access to the shockwave site. this has left me with the pre-installed games on the dells.

good news, i have a new high score!

this is war can man!

monday is recycling day in my neighborhood and i hate to admit but i am lazy about taking my soda cans to the store to redeem them. so, like many others i just put them into the recycling bin for the village to pick up.

for the past year i have been having a weekly battle with these two men who drive through the neighborhood to rummage through the bins for the cans. i have tried many things to try and deter them from taking my cans. i have varied the time that i put them out, even on some occasions, skipping a week, i didn't bother to rinse anything out (this also included the smelly cat food cans) hoping the smell would deter them. no luck.

two weeks ago i got into a shouting match with one of them as he proceeded to take the cans from my bin while i was standing right in front of him telling him not to take them.

its not that i really care about the cans its the fact that these guys wait in front of my house and know when i leave it.

so now i am embarking on my biggest plan yet. i am going to super glue all the cans together and get sandpaper to scrape away the bar code to make them unredeemable just in case the super glue doesn't work.

this is war can man and i will win mother fucker!

my ipod and bras

well with the help u2 and their digital box set i have managed to completely fill my 15g ipod. it is always a special feeling when this happens and now justifies my wish/need to get the new ipod iphoto which will cost 6 bills for 60g. it will be mine by this time next month.

the other thing that provides me with very strong feelings is shopping for bras. will someone please explain to me why no one ever has my size and when they do the bra must have crazy amounts of padding and underwire. neither of which i need nor want. sigh.

have some u2 with your turkey

last night when my pie was baking (yes, i made a pie on pie day but not for pie day) i was also being casual with my money. you see i spent 149.99 on the new u2 digital box only available on itunes. my plan was to not buy the whole thing, but you see there are these very rare and unrealeased songs in the box set. itunes, as i figured they would, made these rare and unreleased songs album only songs. this means that they could not be purchased seprately.

a little angry at first i realized that this would be the time to completely digitize my u2 collection. for years now i have been debating whether or not to buy the u2 albums that i currently own on tape and make th eplunge. so these rare and unreleased songs made me take the plunge.

446 songs and it took well over 4 hours to download. that is impressive with high speed internet and such.

446 songs and 149.99 dollars later.

i will be listening to a lot of u2 this thanksgiving weekend.

belated last blog entry of congress 2004 and gay kids love cbc

well i'm officially writing this from my sofa in my home. i love my home.

thursday cbc and i went to disneyland with rich. this was dream come true for him because ever since he was watching howdy doody as a kid he has wanted to go.

disneyland was a lot of fun, we were there for the whole day. space mountain and the matterhorn were closed so we were a little bummed about that. we started on indiana jones then worked our way through disney. cbc was hysterical because she screamed and laughed at everything and you know how loud she is! but the great thing about that is her laugh is so infectous.

we then went to california adventure which is the amusement park that i can see from my room (well not today because it is real foggy). disney built it within the past 6 years. they have this real cool airplane simulation ride called soaring over california. you sit in these seats and they raise you up and then tilt you in an imax-like theater. but as you are going over the ocean and the orange groves they release the scents for each area so it seems like you're really flying over it. we went on that twice.

after that we went on the grizzly water ride. its like white water rafting. you get real wet, well at least i did because after one drop this giant, and i mean giant, wave came into our boat and landed only on me. i was soaked through. i was soaked more than those heavy rainy days we had a few months ago. i had to buy a sweatshirt just to keep from freezing. we were in the boat with these two gay guys cutting classes. they sat next to cynthia and we were talking to them and of course cbc started screaming and laughing at each drop and spin. they were laughing at her and the one sitting next to her said, "i love you!" so the gay guys dig cbc.

we then made our way to this rocket ride (a giant swing) and spun around a few times. after that we went on the traditional yo-yo swing ride that is at most amusement parks. i think this gave me the best opprotunity to dry off my jeans.

i'm not sure what i was thinking when i said, "yeah lets go on the farris wheel. that looks like fun." then immediately to cynthia, "i may grab onto you during the ride." i have this tremendous fear of heights even on ferris wheels. but i guess i thought that since this one was caged in i would be okay. while standing in line i noticed that the cages were swinging and thought to myself, "what the hell am i doing?"

we get in, i sit next to cynthia and everything is going fine. I quickly make an assessment that i can hold onto the cage and the side of my seat so i wouldn't have to grab onto cbc. we're going along fine and i'm doing ok and even start thinking that the swinging won't be too bad. then the swinging began. i swear we almost went all the way over. cynthia and i were screaming, i was praying and rich was sitting calmly smiling the whole time. it was a good thing that i was able to hold onto to the seat and cage because i think i would have hurt cynthia's arm otherwise. but i am convinced i get extra points for the bravery i displayed.

after returning to solid ground we made our way to this roller coaster, that according to the gay guys, is completely magnetized unlike the roller coatsers of our youth. we were online for about 15 minutes when the ride came to a halt and were turned away. so back to disneyland for shopping.

it took an entire day but cynthia and i finally saw goofy! unfortunately he was roped off and we hit our wall. it is amazing how quickly exhasution can hit you. we did our shopping and headed back to the hotel and dinner.

at 8:30 pm we had our last congress meeting. when we get there the room is empty. while we were waiting we had a conversation about how angry i would be if they showed up 30 minutes late. well i think it may have been even worse. the lead organizer came and said that he changed the meeting to 10:00 pm. i really internalized my anger at that time. fortunately he took advantage of our presence and we took care of pubs and toolbix stuff. when everyone else showed up we helped them figure out there budget. it just amazes me sometimes how difficult people like to make things.

that night was probably my most worst night trying to get some sleep. i was either too cold or too hot, then i woke up at 3:00 am and couldn't sleep until about 5:30 am. we have breakfast and then head to the airport. i think i fell asleep on the way because i remember reading the newspaper at one point and then waking up very near the airport.

i'm the one who gets stopped at security for a bag check. this combined with my tiredness was making me grumpy fast. plus the long beach airport is so small and amazingly crowded things were getting bad for me fast. i just sat down and tried to calm myself.

the flight itself was great, except for the one guy we had to wait for. i believe his name is matthew fayfield. he delayed our flight and thus our return home. i slept on the plane and felt good again. i also played with a kid in front of me and returned to a more sociable status by the time we hit the ground. it took me a while to get my bag and some grumpiness returned. but i got home at 9:00 pm and the grumpiness went away.

now back to the daily grind of asme. sigh.

congress update

i owe you an update for tuesday.

it ended up being a very good day. we had our ht05 meeting in the morning and met the kcr's. i sat right across a female organizer and i wondered why i was picking up major gaydar. i looked up at her and i realized that she is a major dyke -- no doubt about it.

one of the things that amazes me about these groups is that they are so stuck on their terminology vs. the terminology we use in the toolbox. what amazes me even more is that these organizers from heat transfer have used the tool before and this is the third time the conference is using the tool. all three years we have used the same terminology.

cbc and i went to the pool and spent maybe an hour and half or two down there. it was so nice to be in the warm sun again and in shorts. i was having a low thigh confidence day so i did not wear my bathing suit. cbc went swimming (sans boot) and then we ordered food to be delivered at the pool.

the amount of men wearing speedos yesterday was amazing. i don't understand how anyone can think they look good in them. and it is on these occassions that if i ever doubted my sexuality that it is reconfirmed. male genitalia is gross!

i tagged along to a couple of cbc's meetings in the evening just to see how these groups interaact and to meet some of the people i keep hearing about.

afterwards we went to our executive lounge (which pvd did not have access to because was only on the 6th floor and not special like us). we had some beer and headed to our rooms for the evening.

aside from sunday, wednesday is the second busiest day of the week. we had our congress orientation at 9:00 am. our tpc went on forever and is going to be a problem.

after the orientation cbc and i finally got rid of everyone and said so long to pvd and went to the marriott across the street to have lunch outdoors. we ran into the folks from the meetings department. liz made them all have lunch together which meant that there was no one to cover the committee meetings -- scary.

we quickly headed back for our toolbox demo which had a whopping 5 people in attendance. i even had us moved to a bigger room because all the poeple at the orientation said they would attend. because of this small group i actually finished the demo in record time - 1 hour!

this of course meant more pool time for me and cbc. but as soon as we got down there the soon had gone away. since i had more thigh confidence today i wore my bathing suit and we went into onethe jacuzzis on the extreme far end away from vps and other asme people.

while sitting on our lounge chairs out tpc came to the pool in his trunks and the we saw rich in is trunks. rich his hairy!

now i'm back in my room with my hot cocoa debating what i am going to wear tonight and of course i will have to iron it.

word from cp is that liz did not actually have uti but a yeast infection. by her request this is an addendum to a previous blog posting. this will also be noted in the comments box of the previous posting.

there is more to tell but too long for the blog.

more after the dinner!

sightings

i saw hiroshi honda today and think he is wearing the same suit that he wore every single day at last year's congress.

liz and her urinary tract infection made it to today's continuity & change presentation. she definitely wears a girdle while at work. my guess is that she's not wearing it now is because of the urinary tract infection. isn't that odd to know soemone's medical condition when they haven't told you? especially one so personal? its like ha ha i know you have uti.

for those staff members who officially registered for the congress a red ribbon that says staff was provided. well liz's ribbon says queen. joke or not very inappropriate for this conference. (note: i officially registered or i thought, sent in my form but it never made it to the registration company therefore i am not registered. so i do not have an official ribbon that says staff. i have my red staff badge with the old logo on it that most staff are wearing btw.)

last night cbc and i had a shadow man by the name of tony min. he showed up at the congress committee meeting which is normally closed. this man has nothing to do with the committee. cbc and i had to leave early to go to the solar energy meeting and after we sit down and start talking shadow man shows up and sits down. v. weird. i'm also not sure if his hair is real or not.

solar has beer at their committee meetings. they rule for that. i think as a rule all committee meetings should have beer. they would certainly be more interesting. and perhaps attendance would increase if everyone knew beer would be available.

kim has a pink back pack with a wand. too bad she can't do one of the chants from harry potter to make liz go away.

i saw a guy today who looked a little like ben kingsley.

also saw emily smith, who looks like a cabbage patch kid, looking very professional today wearing a skirt suit with her hair blown completly straight.

mgs wearing an odd looking brown silk top. she just looks so out of sorts.

tonight cbc and i are going out with phil and mary grace. out annual tech pubs congress dinner. mgs wanted to make sure it was on a night when her parents were around so that her husband, tom, would not be stuck with both kids. so okay this is the problem i have with that. he's their parent why the hell can't he watch both of them by himself? that family really annoys me sometimes.

my next meeting is at 4 so i'm gonna chill some more and re-energize with the diet coke that came out of the coke dispenser by mistake.

liz update

well there was one liz sighting yesterday. cbc saw her in a meeting wearing her uniform of blue asme shirt and black pants. cbc thinks that liz wears a girdle all the time cuz she looked lumpy.

liz also developed a urinary tracy infection yesterday so she stayed in her hotel room the rest of the day. this news coming from marisa. i'm slightly suspicious about this because i'm convinced that her plan all along was to be as unavailable as possible. she's not satying at the conference hotel and i think she knows this conference is going to tank committee meeting wise.

this did not stop her from causing grief to kim.

she called kim on her cell to have her cehck on a breakfast for harry armin, our president, in his suite. kim told liz that she never told kim she had to do this and the liz replied, "yes i did." kim told her that she didn't and that melissa was susposed to take care of it. liz then told kim it was now her responsibility and that she would have to go to harry personally to apologize about there being no breakfast. this all came from cbc who was standing next to kim when this happened.

so my mission this morning is to find kim and just tell her the passion of the christ. this apparently helps kim keep things in perspective. cbc said she looked so mad that she was ready to quit. kim needs some friends now and unfortumately it is only me, cbc and mary who can try to help.

the continuity and change update starts at 8:00 am. so i'm gonna hop in the shower and get going. i took a tylenol pm last night and finally fell sleep after midnight and slept until 6:30 am. i just hope that i'm not groggy the rest of the day and can wear my contacts today.

dumb ass move of the day

never ever buy saline solution that looks exactly like the bottle your disinfectant solution comes in. because when you are rushing to finish packing you won't realize that you grabbed the wrong bottle. then won't notice this as you try to put your contact in on sunday morning and practically burn your eye out of its socket. well not really birn it out but more like have it disolve before your one good eye.

that shit hurts.

i have already seen mary grace so there is no hiding the fact that i have my glasses. i flushed my eye out but it is still red and sore. i will have to wear my glasses for at least today and maybe tomorrow. i was hoping my eye would be okay for this evening's meetings but it doesn't look like it.

it really hurts and now i hope i don't have to go see a doctore while in anaheim.

sigh.

anger

well it happened again. no matter what i do when i travel to california my body clock is all fucked up. i forced myself to stay awake last night to help my body adjust to the jet lag. i ended up going to sleep at 11:00 pm california time. i woke up at 4:00 am california time. fuck, fuck, and triple fuck.

this means i will be a wreak tonight and to make it worse i have a meeting from 7-9 (pst). the only thing i can hope for is that i can take a nap this afternoon. my first meeeting doesn't start until 5 this evening. so i pretty much plan on laying low today.

you know its bad when you have already checked your groupwise account, answered the help proxies and started on all the status reports you owe cbc. and it is only 6:57 am (pst).

a long flight

it just amazes how long it takes to fly across the country. i think i'll ask one of our aerospace engineers this week why on earth have we yet to develop high speed air travel cross country.

after my first entry in the jet blue terminal i hooked up with cbc. from there we people watched. one guy stood out because he was only wearing a tang top. it turned out he is some motorcycle film maker. i think his name is drew scott. well anyway he ended up sitting in front of me. and then got sick. he spent most of the flight in the restroom until landing when he threw up and stunk up the whole plane.

cbc got her seat moved closer to me so she could have her aisle seat. oh and amy geffen was on the flight too. she never saw us or pretended that she never did. cp thinks she looks like the wicked witch from wizard of oz. its amazing that that is what i think of whenever i see her now.

the hotel is huge, tremendously huge. just getting to the registration desk from the front door seems as though you are going on a long journey. cbc and i are on the same floor but separate halls. the floor has like 4 or 6 really long halls. i'll take a picture of mine tomorrow.

right now it is after midnight in new york but only 9 here. i am really tired but am trying to stay up longer to force myself to get on california time.

oh and odb died today. so weird, he collapsed in a studio. news reports say he pretty much was dead when he hit the ground. guess his heart couldn;t handle all the drug abuse anymore.

the first blog entry for congress 2004

well i did a dumb thing today, i left my swiss army knife in my bag. so it got taken away and i'm really sad because it was a nice blue. i've had it in the bag since the blackout last year. it had a bottle opener, which was the main reason i had it -- to open bottles of beer.

since i didn't eat lunch before i left i grabbed some food here and discovered the sign that said jetblue has free wireless in the terminal. they totally rock the planet. so what a great opportunity to create the first blog.

i'm waiting for cbc, having a burito, and blogging. what a great way to start a trip!

smelly man returns

today my train going home was short a car or two (so was my morning train btw). i found a seat next to this guy who i thought looked familiar, i just couldn't figure out where i remembered him from. he was rude and didn't even let me take off my coat before he sat down again.

then when i sat down he raised his arm and then it hit me. i remembered why he looked familiar -- he smells. the last time i encountered him was in may when he raised his arm and spread his b.o. to anyone within the smelling radius. smelly man was back in my life and still smelling bad, although this time he was trying to cover it up with serious amounts of polo. it is really scary that people can smell that bad when it is this cold out.

why bother with guidelines?

nobody follows them anyway. when the folks in ep insist on giving one of their assistants access to create toolbox lite sites, we said ok but you need to follow these guidelines. one of the guidelines was not to create sites for conferences that would be using the full version of the tool.

i emailed the guilty person last week to say i needed an updated banner for the full version site of the nano conference. i check my work email (big mistake, i know) to discover that she is created a lite version for this very conference. not only did she create one but she created two for the very same conference. when she received an error for the first one she created another one under a different name.

so now i am wondering why she is creating a new site for the very conference i am working on? why would you do this?

i give up!
