my vacation so far i spent day 1 of my vacation getting my room ready for a redesign. this consisted of cleaning out some drawers and deciding on which clothes i was going to keep and which ones i would donate. so far so good. day 2 - saturday was spent on the sofa watching the olympics and doing some laundry. day 3 - i got my groceries delivered and vacuumed the living room. then watched the olympics for the rest of the day. oh, i found a dead mouse left by one of the cats. gross. day 4 - monday. although i am on vacation i have answered some emails to help chrissy. it is less stressful to answer them from one's sofa instead of being in the office. no more olympics and it is raining so i am not too sure how much of the us open will be on tv today. i will get back to my room soon but julie is very happy that i am on the sofa. // posted by stacey on 10:55:00 AM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday, August 28, 2004 thank you airport express you have made me fall in love with my stereo again. you see since i started using itunes i used my stereo less and less. playing songs through my ibook, imac or ipod was much easier than having to burn a bunch of cds. this has been solved because of you airport express. i just plug you into my stereo and i can play all my songs in itunes through the stereo. yesterday was a wonderful example of this happiness. while preparing my room for its redesign i was able to plug in the airport express and hit shuffle on my itunes library. since i only have good music in my library it was hours of enjoyment with full surround sound. total bliss. i also discovered yesterday that i have a lot of shoes, more than i thought. all of my flip-flops occupy one of those shoe tree things. by putting them in the shoe tree thing you are now able to see the nice variety of colors that i have. i even discovered a pair that i forgot i bought at old navy and even better, they matche one of my outfits perfectly. i am sooooo excited about this that i am already planning to wear them when i go back to work on sept. 7. // posted by stacey on 10:28:00 AM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thursday, August 26, 2004 i'm on vacation it is finally here, i am on vacation! no asme for 11 whole days. on the way to grand central i saw the tenni splayer andy roddick and shook his hand. i must say that even this lesbian thought he was cute. // posted by stacey on 7:52:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tuesday, August 24, 2004 vacation time i have only two more days until i am on my unexpected vacation. because tom said that i could only work two days at home i decided to take the week off. i mean if he doesn't care that no work is being done why should i? when looking at the calendar i found two more surprises. this friday is my flex day then i have labor day off. this means i will not be back at work until september 7. yes, you read that right, september 7. that is a total 11 days away from asme. i will not be checking my email, even congress which has their final paper deadline on august 30. i do not care because tom does not care. th esort of bummer part is that i can't afford to go away on a real vacation. i will however be redocorating my bedroom, which is in serious need of a redo. i will be putting on a new coat of paint and even getting some new furniture. the furntiure is from ikea, which is why i can afford new furniture and not a real going away vacation. technically it i snot even in the furniture category as it is just an entertainment thingy to put my tv, dvd/vcr player, and stereo. i have grand plans for the redesign. so grand that i have even measured the room and all my items in it. just wednesday and thursday and a big fuck you asme, cuz i don't care! // posted by stacey on 8:53:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sunday, August 22, 2004 sunday makes me sad because it means that i have to go to work tomorrow. so far i have only two meetings scheduled. but on the bright side on friday i start my vacation and don;t come back until after labor day. yippee!!!!!! // posted by stacey on 7:15:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday, August 21, 2004 chrissy's dream this is a weird one that she has titled, 'THE HORRORS OF WORK.' i had a really weird dream last night that sheryl crow gave me head in a haunted house. then you (sc) appeared in my dream and you told me she did the same for you the day after. HAHA. and then when she left i was alone in the house and these killers were trying to chase me. they were like zombies. and i outsmarted them. and they left. and then i looked out the window and i saw wu tang clan in pimp suits. they were going to a party for cynthia. then i also remember my family bought the house and it was really dirty .. and i was cleaning the bathroom. and there were wet clothes and paintbrushes in it. and i saw ruben. and he wanted to have sex with me in the shower. and i told him i already got some lovin from a girl. and he was like 'damn thats hot' // posted by stacey on 9:54:00 AM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- badminton rules one of the most enoyable things of the olympics so far has been badminton. it is nothing like the backyard variety from our youth. it is fast paced and deadly. the shuttlecock is made from real chinese goose feathers, taken from the left wing so that teh feathers curve the same way. during a rally the the average shuttlecock speed is 200mph and 16 shuttlecocks can be used depending on how many break. the net is also a lot lower. the action really gets going during doubles. absolutely fantastic! // posted by stacey on 9:46:00 AM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Friday, August 20, 2004 french girls who don't wear deoderant and smell, then sit next to you on the train suck! // posted by stacey on 5:03:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thursday, August 19, 2004 muffins for the past few weeks i have not been able to eat the muffin i get for breakfast. i don't know why but on most days it sits on my desk well past lunch time partly consumed. on most days i take its remains home and eat it before dinner. on monday i had a late morning meeting and took my muffin with me. cynthia inquired about why i had not eaten it yet and i told her about this odd problem of not being able to even start or finish the muffin. she concluded that it is because i am busy. well today she made a comment about the uneaten muffin on my desk and told me that i needed to eat it. chrissy then joined in on the you must eat breakfast tale. so reluctantly i started to eat it but by 11:57 i couldn't any more. so i am left these remains.
it is a blueberry muffin in case you can't tell. i'm not too sure that these remains will make it home with me, they will most likely get thrown away. maybe i'll give them to julie. like every morning i will get my muffin and try to eat it. hopefully tomorrow it won't be under duress. // posted by stacey on 2:46:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wednesday, August 18, 2004 busy, busy, busy i hate august with a passion. one, it is because it means that summer will be ending soon. two, my work starts to pile up. the entire week has been non-stop work. i spent all day yesterday working on congress, except for about 20 minutes when i worked on tribology. the first thing i did this morning was start work on congress, then spent the rest of the day building the new jrc site. i am starting to get stressed out again. my back is starting hurt and my neck and shoulders are really tight. i don't like this feeling at all. i must admit that this has rarely happened since i started working for cbc in november 2002. she has been stressed out this week as well so that makes me a feel a little better in the sense that it is spread out evenly through out the department. i sign off for now because even my arms are sore. i think tonight will be an early night. // posted by stacey on 7:55:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tuesday, August 17, 2004 small joys in life my neighbors at number 7 now order from peapod. i don't know them because if i did i would have surely referred them so i could get a discount. but i'm sure they started ordering from them becuase peapod comes to my house every week. i've also been watching a lot of the olympics. in fact, i spent all day sunday watching and am upset that i have to got to work. for the past two days i have been trying to leave work on time so that i can rush home, put on my pjs, make some dinner and put on the olympics. my evenings start out on bravo then switch to nbc when the coverage swtiches at 8:00pm. i have even been falling asleep to the olympics. usually i go to bed at 10:00pm so i switch to my bed and watch from there. by 11:00pm i'm usually out cold. i really want to take a pto so i can watch during the week but unfortunately i have a lot of work that i need to make sure gets done because... i will be taking the entire week off during the republican national convention. apparently pvd wasn't as big of a dick as we thought. it was tom's idea to insist on only working from home for two days. pvd is still a dick because he didn't fight for us. in fact tom's words to phil were, "phil - give me a break." i'll give you a break jerk, i'll take the week off instead and i hope you see me on tv while i'm at the us open beeotch! well we are no win the medal rounds of women's fencing/sabre, check ya later! // posted by stacey on 7:39:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Monday, August 16, 2004 pvd sucks the big one again our hr department gave us the opportunity to work from home during the republican national convention. the one catch i sthat it would have to be approved by our supervisors and in our department's case our lovely director, phil. he had orginally told cbc that we would approve us to work at home but that we had to come in at least one day of the week. not exactly thrilled with this chrissy and i agreed. we told cbc that i would come in on that monday and chrissy would come in on that friday. this is the email we got today. TP Staff: The following has been approved regarding the week of the Republican National Convention. A maximum of two days working at home for Annette Chrissy Colin Stacey and Tara. And of course, the option to take some PTO applies to all of us. so we can only work two days from home. please explain to me why? this is a rhetorical question cuz i'm gonna tell you why. pvd sits in his cube and says to himself, "i'm the director, i have a big dick (or so he thinks. i think my nuetered cat has a bigger dick) - they don't. i am going to rule by authroity and position and fuck them up." however i am not going to let him win. if he does not extend the amount of days i am going to take the whole week as vacation and not do any work at all. if he doesn't approve that i'm then going to call in sick every day. you see pvpd you have a choice. 1. you can have reliable people who are willing to actually do work and make sure that everything gets done. 2. we'll take ptos and no work will be done whatsoever and we're not staying late to catch up. // posted by stacey on 7:40:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sunday, August 15, 2004 update on the commercial break it is sunday afternoon and i have not checked my email. firday was very tough because i was talking to chrissy about work, specifically one of my conferences and how the new guy was annoying her. but i refused to give in. yesterday was easy because i wa sout of the house for a bit and when i came home i was tired and just watched the olympics for the rest of the day. today will be a piece of cake too. i re-arranged my wireless network this morning to utilize the ne airport express. world domination contnues. so i am happy about that. i also cleaned my desk and got my groceries delivered. i will also be watching more of the olympics. there is also a plan for guacamole and a margarita for lunch. i know it i sbad when you start drinking before the week begins but i am anticipating a rough one. // posted by stacey on 12:23:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday, August 14, 2004 it has begun my new airport express is up and running. i have extended the range of my wireless network and i am now playing my itunes library through the stereo in my bedroom. i feel very powerful right now. // posted by stacey on 1:48:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- world domination begins today after i get my hair cut i am headed to the apple store to get my airport express. upon my return home i will begin my world domination. hahahahahaha (evil laugh). // posted by stacey on 8:43:00 AM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Friday, August 13, 2004 commercial breaks zaida called to tell me that i was in her dream the other night. i'll spare you the weirdness of it all but one thing she did mention is that my portion of her dream was a commercial break in one long continuous dream. this built in mechanism of hers is a way to break up bad dreams, nightmares. i am aware this beginning to sound like psych 101 but i do have a point that i am eventually going to get to and i promise that it will begin with the next paragraph. my point is…cbc has put me on a commercial break. this past week has been crazy. i finally caught up with all my work from when i went to san diego. but monday ended up being as bit crazed because i was trying to all my work for monday, tuesday and wednesday all on monday. the reason was because on tuesday and wednesday tech pubs, meetings and ep all had to attend that influencing without authority seminar. a lot of work usually arrives in my email in box after i leave for the day. during flex time hours this is usually between 5:00 and 6:00. i have this somewhat bad habit of checking my work email as soon as i get home. most of the time i don’t really do anything with it but if the request is really simple i'll take care of it. i did just that on monday in addition to the work i brought home. on tuesday morning i came in extra early to finish a couple of things and to answer tech support questions that came in over night. went home on tuesday and checked email. i was too tired to do any of the work i brought home with me. i came in early again on wednesday and answered support questions at a great neck pace and took care of a lot of congress things. this now brings us to yesterday. i came in at my regular time, 8:30 and answered all of my support questions before my 9:30 meeting. that's when things started to get dicey. work started to come in at an amazing pace one of which was the reallocation of congress sessions. i put this off as long as i could because it does require a good amount of attention. to quickly describe each session slot at congress has a code that is determined by date, time and order. when working with 600 sessions this is essential because it is easier to keep track of session swaps between divisions and groups. said, our technical program chair provided me with a list of sessions swaps, new allocations and an updated grid. everything was going well until i got to the heat transfer sessions. this just did not make sense. it was now 5:00 and nothing matched up with what was on the grid or the total number of sessions he was talking about. after looking at it i lost all sense of logic and reason. even chrissy telling me to call him could not register with me, i was still stuck on, "this doesn't make sense." i continued to try and figure it out after chrissy left but just couldn’t get any farther. finally i walked into cbc's cube and asked for help, not always an easy task for me to admit that i need help. i described it as best as i could, considering i was making no sense to even myself at this point. finally she just looked at me and said that i was on brain overload. she had to tell me to send said an email and basically what to say in it. then came the request. she asked that i not check my work email for the entire weekend. i gave her a look and she said for at least two days. i reluctantly agreed, which now brings me back to the point. i need to a mental break, basically a commercial break in order to recover from a long week, i am a workaholic, i admit that, sometimes i just need to be reminded. // posted by stacey on 11:39:00 AM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tuesday, August 10, 2004 influencing without authority - day 1 so today was the first day of our influencing without authority seminar. i would like it to be known that i made the 6:49 train this morning and arrived at the office at exactly 7:45am. that is correct - 7:45am. there certainly is something truly wrong with that. for the most part the seminar went well but here are the main problems with this whole thing. the majority of us in attendance already have great working relationships. we get along well and have no problem supporting and doing things for each other. the smaller group of people we work with, read ep, is a totally different story. they do not listen well and do not understand what colloaborative working environments mean. note: i will refrain from using the corporate speak terminology of teams. why? we are not a team but co-workers, we do not have a uniform and do not compete against other teams. we work in groups and collaborate on projects together. example of not working collaboratively. one of our projects during today's seminar, the new guy, ko was assigned to work with myself and cbc. we were given the task of writing a presentation using facts, statistics, personal experience, expertise, anecdotes, and analogies. when we begin ko decides that he needs to go to the restroom so cbc and decide to begin becaus e there is a time limit on the project. he comes back and does not listen to the things that cbc and i have worked on but instead comes up with his own theme. he then decides that he wants to quote einstein then decides to leave the room and get the quote. after he came back i just took my pad and started writing the presentation that cbc and i came up with. another reason the seminar is not useful is because the directors of the departments are there, yes even pvd even though he did not want to participate. note: pvd had a giant coffee stain on his shirt this morning. pvd was the only one who rated using his position as power was a good thing. since cbc is his direct report there are so many things that will just never work on him. i feel bad for cbc because she is really a wonderful, caring, intelligent person/boss. no one who works above seems to feel the need to acknowledge this, mostly because they see her as a threat i suppose. she is the third boss i have had at this company and by far is the best supervisor this company has period. note to self: must let cbc know how much i appreciate what she does for me. // posted by stacey on 8:37:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sunday, August 08, 2004 3 park no matter how hard i try i just can't escape 3 park ave. i decided to go see manchurian candidate today. part of the movie was filmed in nyc and wouldn't you know it 3 park makes an appearance. then a little further along the movie al franken appears in it. for those of you who may not be aware, al franken is in our building every day because air america radio is located there. now, near the end of the movie, without giving anything away, denzel washington's character shaves his head. the bald denzel slightly resembles rick. we could look into this deeper if you would like. lets throw out the fact the number 3 is a power number. i work in 3 park and there were three reminders of 3 park. oh and i had three mozarella sticks during the movie. staying on the subject of work i bought two books today. (thought i was ginna say three huh?) the first is called "when smart people work for dumb bosses." this would be pvd i am referring to not cbc. cbc and those who work under her are smart. pvd is just really dumb. the other book is the "art of war." look into it what you will. // posted by stacey on 4:26:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday, August 07, 2004 above and beyond the call of duty it is saturday and i spent an hour of it doing asme work. yuck. i will blame this on pvd for agreeing to making our dept. go to the stupid influencing seminar on tuesday and wednesday. i still feel behind in work from when i was in la jolla and now my schedule for next week is not improving. on monday morning i have a congress meeting so that means i have to try and catch up on everything that afternoon. tuesday and wednesday are about influencing each other. on thursday i have another, longer, congress meeting. again this means i will have only thursday afternoon to do work. this leaves friday and gives me another reason to worship cbc as the best boss ever. because of the influencing seminar our develpoment meeting has been rescheduled to friday. friday just happens to be my flex day and i was planning to switch it so that i would not miss the development meeting. cbc heard about this and said no i must take my flex day. while i am happy she is making me do this it means i only have one full day to do all my work. this is why i brought some of it home and gave up an hour of my saturday. the one good thing is that the congress website now has more complete session information and does look better. now i am going to devote more time to asme and focus on the nano conference. yuck and more yuck. // posted by stacey on 11:43:00 AM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wednesday, August 04, 2004 cbc is back! chrissy and i are so happy. we feel complete once again. king's update. they are gone forever. there is a for lease sign in the window. viva pizza has been shut down for a few days because of the health department. i am bringing my lunch tomorrow because i am running out of places to eat. // posted by stacey on 7:23:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Monday, August 02, 2004 we are very lonely when cbc is not in the office and... hate it when pvd is in the office. tech pubs is a very strange place to be when cbc is not in. she is a calming presence and demonstrates on a daily basis that everyone else at asme is crazy. this is also the time that pvd seems to realize that chrissy and i exist. although he didn't even realize i was in until 3pm. i was summoned to give him a five minute summary of the pvp conference. damn, i forgot to tell him how we told everyone about what an ass he is. chrissy and i have one more day without cbc. i'm not too sure how we are going to make it. // posted by stacey on 6:46:00 PM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- monday's suck when homeland security says we're all gonna die and when the credit card reader at port chester doesn't work. this means i now have to stand in a long line at grand central, a terrorist target. // posted by stacey on 7:25:00 AM // | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
