memorial day

there is nothing like a three day weekend especially when the third day falls on a monday. getting to sleep late on monday is awesome.

according to the weather report we're supposed to avoid rain today which means i can grill my tex mex chicken courtesy of the barefoot contessa. you gotta love a recipe that has tequila in it.

happy memorial day!

how times have changed

when our ed first came on board a couple of years ago we worshiped him. the first two things he did was change our dress code to business casual and let us go early for the july 4th weekend. he followed that up by letting us leave early for labor day, then thanksgiving and then christmas.

yesterday no such email came, we had to stay for the entire day. i guess this is part of continuity and change -- we have changed our early dismissal policy and are continuing the policy of the old regime, no early dismissals!

virgil, you hurt us sometimes.

it took long enough

after ten years of threatening to do so, june has finally quit. she handed in her resignation yesterday. there are many of us, me included, who are very happy that she will finally be gone.

what is really funny is that she will be working for someone she used to despise. amazing what you will do when you want to change jobs. but june was always an ass kisser.

i believe her last day is june 17. i'm counting the days!

draft?

it appears that the bush administration is quietly trying to get the draft reinstated. there are bills in both the house and senate that many republicans are hoping get passed rather quickly while the country is focused on the election.

read the article from congress.org.

i saw a great bumper sticker the other day. it said the regime will fall in 2004. in order for this to happen people will need to show up and vote. in order for people to vote they need to register.

people love to complain about what is going wrong in washington but rarely do they take any steps to help change things. the first step to make change is to register to vote. if the last presidential election wasn't proof enough that every vote counts i don't know what is.

to vote in this year's presidential election you must register to vote by september 7 by mail and september 13 in person. but don't wait. register to vote now. here are some resources:

the pubic info dept.

in addition to my company creating new acronyms they have apparently created a new department in communications & publishing called pubic info.

perhaps they should create a new position called editor.

continuity and change or c&c

our company is going through a reorganization but one of the things that will never change is their need to create more acronyms.

in our draft copy of continuity and change phase II: transition - some new acronyms have been created. they are:

c&c - continuity & change
po - project office (so how do we not confuse this with purchase orders?)
pmtf - project management task force
pmrt - project management review team
pt - project teams

the draft includes a project template form. i suppose this acronym would be ptf. if used in a sentence or two -- i am filling out the ptf to start a new pt, which must be submitted to the po and then transmitted to the pmtf. if the pmtf approves the ptf and authorizes the pt it will be monitored by the pmtf during c&c.

the exact function of the pmrt is not provided in this draft.

here's my acronym...bm - bite me.

gmail invite on ebay

so i finally broke down and put one of my gmail invitations up for auction on ebay. seeing that people are actually willing to pay 66 bucks for something that is free is amazing. i'm sure many people are also doing this so that they in turn can sell their invitations. lets just hope for these people's sake that invitations will still be offered.

the auction goes off in 6 days & 23 hours. i'll keep you posted.

toolbox woes

all i want is for things on the toolbox to work like they did before. i never quite understand how code just breaks.

all i want is for organizers to do their job and not complain when i have to go in and do it for them.

all i want is for authors to actually meet a deadline and not complain when we tell them they can't submit their final paper because the deadline was over a month ago.

jlb is evil, cont.

today is kim's birthday and june has said nothing to her. even liz said happy birthday. june has this issue with birthdays -- hers. you see she hates it when people for get hers. she will remind you weeks in advance and if you happen to forget it, then mention it a day late she will say, "thanks, but it was yesterday." then proceed to blow you off.

serena and jacinta have already given kim some flowers. they all said that they could feel june fuming over it. chrissy & i have decided that we too will get kim some flowers and walk right by june's cube as we loudly wish kim a happy birthday. it i shard to tell what kim is more excited about the flowers or pissing off june.

the different between our being and june's? we are nice to others, june is not.

you know you let jlb borrow your pen because hers isn't working the way she wants it to then the bitch goes and breaks it!

keep in mind this was not a cheap pen this was one of those nice pilot fine point pens. the kind that our company won't buy for us cuz it costs more than .25. i paid for this pen myself.

argh!!!!!

historic day

today is the 50 anniversary of brown v. the board of education. we still have a way to go as many schools are not integrated mostly due to economic dividing lines as blacks continue to lag behind whites in academics achievement. according to a report, brown at 50: king's dream or plessy's nightmare? by the civil rights project at harvard university schools are becoming more segregated.

"A half-century after the Supreme Court found that segregated schools are 'inherently unequal,' there is growing evidence that the Court was correct. Desegregated schools offer tangible advantages for students of each racial group. Our new work, however, shows that U.S. schools are becoming more segregated in all regions for both African American and Latino students. We are celebrating a victory over segregation at a time when schools across the nation are becoming increasingly segregated."

today is also the day that the state of massachusetts joins the netherlands, belgium and three provinces in canada that have legalized marriage. it is still hard to believe that this is actually happening somewhere in the united states during my lifetime. this is just an exciting time. new york state attorney general, eliot spitzer has made a legal ruling that new york must and will honor the lawful marriages in other states. sptizer, who will most likely run for governor, does support same-sex marriage. hopefully, after we get rid of pataki new york can join this list of open minded states, provinces & countries.

five people in my department have been allowed to take today off. still amazes me that this was allowed to happen. but now i have the opportunity to enjoy it. i might actually be able to listen to my music through the computer instead of my ipod. that way i can enjoy the music and the silence that occurs when five people are out at the same time.

on a side note rumsfeld said he stopped reading the newspapers. i guess he got tired of having to face reality for a while and how he and his administration fucked up once again. we really need to make sure that bush does not get re-elected. visit the rock the vote site to register to vote. if 2000 didn't make you realize it -- your vote does count and it is time to prove it in 2004.

gmail invitation

because i happen to be a blogger user i got a special invitation to test drive gmail in its beta version. this was cool because i got to have my preferred email name (scoops) before it was taken. for those of you know me pretty well, you understand that this is a v. big deal.

when i signed up i received two invitations that i could give out. i have one left -- do you want it?

i could give it to you for free but when i was looking at ebay this morning i happened to discover that there are 277 auctions for gmail invites. the going rate is 20 bucks. are people really this desperate to pay for a free email address?

while i like the idea of being almost guaranteed my preferred address i'm not sure i would pay for it. free email is free email after all.

so, i'm still left with this free invitation to gmail. i could give it away for free but if you are that desperate for it i could offer it to you for a really good deal. maybe then i could sell this bridge that i know of.

email woes continue

good news - in 15 minutes our incoming email will be restored.

bad news - i'll have to answer it

bad news - "Because of the way this failure occurred, messages sent to you on Saturday and Sunday are likely to be permanently lost. According to our host provider, the queuing software on the former forwarding system became corrupt late Friday or early Saturday. Although it continued to accept inbound e-mail, it was forwarding outward to destination e-mail addresses a stream of meaningless junk."

good news - i may not have to much to answer after all

this having no incoming email is beginning to disrupt my morning routine. i'm not really complaining it is just weird. it will supposedly be restored this afternoon at which time both my inbox and the tech support boxes will be over flowing.

i'm hoping that people just gave up trying to send us email and won't even try to contact us for the rest of the week because they think we don't answer our email.

jobs

My job has turned into a bad boyfriend, and I have been faking this orgasm for too long.

i saw this on another blog today and just laughed because i've had jobs where i felt like this. except of course instead of being a bad boyfriend it would be a bad girlfriend.

on a somewhat good note our incoming email is not arriving because the forwarding server in virgina is broken. this has left me and fellow ecc, chrissy, with little to do since we spend most of our days answering email. this started on friday and may be resolved sometime tomorrow afternoon.

my mother's co-worker needs to die

on most mornings i take a cab to the train station to make sure that i actually get on the early train instead of walking and somehow losing time along the way.

this morning we made an extra stop to pick someone else up. this other person violated one of the most important rules ever! if you call a cab, make sure you are ready. we sat and waited for this person for over 5 minutes. when i finally said that i couldn't wait any longer none other than my mother's evil co-worker, phyllis, gets in the car.

she actually had the nerve to say, "i didn't think anyone else would be in the car." i remained quiet and polite but did miss my train because of this v. evil woman.

she must now die.

the amazing thing about amin is that after all this time he still remembered by order, even how much sugar i take in my tea. amazing.

yak, yak, yak

i really hate it when people have conversations in the hall right outside my cube. it is even worse when it is judy & mgs.

today's tidbits:
mgs ended up getting her hair cut real short because tj was running around & destroying the hair salon and mgs was not paying attention to the woman who was cutting her hair. so now it is really short. mgs says she has natural tangley hair as opposed to judy's natural curly hair.

damn now my oatmeal is cold.

for some reason it is quiet today -- and yes, judy is here. i have accomplished some major tasks today and am pondering which one i should do next. should i prepare the web trends reports for the past two months or should i start building the power 05 site?

chrissy is cleaning her desk again. i could have sworn she did that last week. hmm what is going on i wonder.

note to self -- bring bigger lunch tomorrow and maybe some breakfast. being on a budget for the next two weeks is gonna suck!

itunes rules

ok, just have to do some boasting about itunes. version 4.5 allows users to post their mixes onto itunes. in addition users can also print out inserts for their jewel cases.

one of the things i like to do is set itunes to shuffle and let it go through my library. i often get great results. with the new feature with itunes i decided to publish today's shuffle mix that i had going on while cleaning my house. you can check it our for yourself at itunes. of course you need to have itunes first. it is available for both mac and windows users if you're not with the program yet.
